Why

AminoX Edge takes the original amino acid blend/endurance blend found in Amino-X and adds a blend of energy and focus promoting ingredients which combines Caffeine with two ingredients which have a long history of use in Chinese Medicine to promote mental vigour. The result is a product which combines the recovery and endurance focus of the original Amino-X with the energy provided by BSN's Glanbia stablemate, Optimum Nutrition's Amino Energy.

When

Ideal during a workout to supply a combination of both energy and recovery, AminoX Edge also doubles up well as an energy drink with recovery promoting benefits when used during the day. Remember that with the caffeine content you don't want to drink this too late at night.

Who

Users looking for an energised amino drink with a higher content of useful amino acids that the likes of Amino Energy will find AminoX Edge a superior alternative.

Predator Nutrition AminoX Edge Review

BSN's Amino-X has been around for some time and now it has been upgraded in the form of the new AminoX Edge, which takes the original Amino-X formula and adds some new ingredients to deliver a very different product.

Amino-X vs AminoX Edge - What is the Difference?

Both products appear to contain idential blends of the same amino acids, 10g of the amino acids Leucine, Isoleucine, Valine, Citrulline, Alanine and Taurine. For athletes the ones which are of most interest will be the three BCAA's, Leucine, Isoleucine and Valine with a considerable body of evidence highlighting their ability to positively influence recovery and muscle gain.

However, there is one slight difference in the amino acids shown on the label namely that on the original Amino-X the three BCAA's are shown separately on the supplements facts panel and being the first amino acids declared in the blend it means that these are the highest dosed amino acids within the Amino-X blend. When we look at the AminoX Edge formula the BCAA's are still shown at the front but this time they are in brackets.

What do the brackets mean we hear you ask?

Quite simply while AminoX Edge shows the three BCAA's first in the supplement facts box what it is saying presented in brackets is that the total amount of all three BCAA's combined is higher dosed than the next amino acid on the AminoX Edge formula shown as Alanine on the label. The concern for users is that BSN may have adopted the brackets to still list the three BCAA's at the forefront of the panel even though individually they may not actually be the highest dosed amino acid

Energy and Focus Blend

This is one area where AminoX Edge clearly differs from the original by BSN including Caffeine, Lindera Extract and Euphoria Fruit Extract which were not included in the original Amino-X. Together these ingredients work together to enhance energy and focus which makes AminoX Edge more similar to Optimum Nutrition's Amino Energy but with a better amino acid composition even taking into account the aforementioned comments suggesting that the overall BCAA content in this version might be inferior to the original Amino-X.

Overall, while we wish BSN would have adopted a transparent label in the amino acid blend we still think this product is an upgrade on the original although for users who wish to avoid stimulants in their BCAA drink, they would be better off sticking to the original.
