Why

If you love ice cream then you've probably waited a long time for a protein rich ice cream that doesn't suffer from being nothing like the real thing. Scitec's Protein Ice Cream Light has won many fans for actually delivering the creaminess and the texture you'd expect from a real ice cream - this is nothing like most protein ice cream that tend to taste like a frozen protein shake and lack the all important mouthfeel you expect from ice cream.

When

Treat this as you would any other protein based snack. You probably don't want to try to live off it or rely on it too heavily for your protein content but as a post-workout snack it is just about perfect!

Who

Ice cream lovers disappointed by previous protein ice creams and anyone who is not a fan of the shake.

Predator Nutrition Protein Ice Cream Light Review

We had reservations about Scitec Protein Ice Cream Light before we first tried it. Having tried a couple of protein ice creams we always find them to be frozen solid when you try to eat them and with a weird texture that practically requires a knife to get it out of the jar. As if that was not bad enough, they would often go from frozen solid to melting completely very quickly so even if you waited for them to defrost properly, you were still no better off.

Scitec have used a different approach by only supply the protein ice cream mix to which you will add water and then freeze. As a consequence we didn't run into the problems of a protein ice cream going super hard in the freezer. Instead, we would freeze it for around 2 hrs and then take it out and eat it. Done this way we found it a great tasting dessert, not as good as regular ice cream of course, but an impressive facsimile of one all the same.

Where Scitec's product is sightly let down is by the relatively high amount of fat. Despite the name, Protein Ice Cream Light contains 11g of fat per serving alongside 14g of protein from whey and just over 6g of sugars. This makes Protein Ice Cream Light very much a sweet treat to enjoy sparingly rather than a substitute for a protein shake.
