Predator Nutrition Bhu Fit Organic Vegan Protein Bar Review

At Predator Nutrition we are always on the lookout for exciting new products from across the world. Being the first in Europe to introduce Quest Bars, among other bars two areas we have seen grow is the market for natural protein bars without artificial ingredients as well as vegan bars and the all new Bhu Fit Organic Vegan Bar delivers on both counts.

The Bhu Fit Philosopy

Before breaking down the bar we have to talk about Bhu Fit themselves. This is a new brand from the USA dedicated to making bars with only true food ingredients without artificial sweeteners, preservatives, additives, or even artificial colours, flavourings and gums. In short, they believe in all natural bars and that means that their bars really stand out in the market as even the more natural ones on the market like Fitjoy Bars still include some ingredients which aren't found naturally in nature but are instead synthetic combinations of natural ingredients.

Solving the Natural Problem

Let's be real here. The reason bars will contain some synthetically created ingredients is to either enhance taste and texture or else to meet macronutrient goals like how much protein and calories a bar has. Trying to deliver a tasty protein bar with good macros with good shelf life is hard!

What is in Bhu Fit Vegan Bars?

Well, as stated already these only contain ingredients which are found in nature, nothing made in a chemist's lab, nothing artificial at all. However, these bars don't just use any old natural ingredients but pick them judiciously. Check out the ingredients on the label and it is all organic. Here is the chocolate, cherry tart and pistachio ingredient list:

Organic Pea Protein, Organic Prebiotic Fiber (From Tapioca), Organic Sunflower Seeds, Organic Chocolate, Organic Brownie Chunks, Organic Palm Oil (Certified Sustainable), Organic Tart Cherries, Organic Pistachios, Organic Pumpkin Seeds, Organic Chocolate Chips, Organic Cocoa Powder, Organic Vanilla, Sea Salt, Organic Coconut Oil, Monk Fruit.

As you can see, every ingredient is something you can visualise and recognise as natural. Also note the absence of soy, dairy and other potential allergens that many want to avoid.

Pea Protein Beats Whey Protein

By using pea protein Bhu Fit have selected a protein source which has been shown to be better than whey for building muscle in one recent study.[1]

Find that hard to believe? Just check out the reference at the bottom of this page.

The prebiotic fibre from tapioca delivers a sweetened fibre called isomalto-oligosaccharides. This is the same ingredient found in bars like Quest and Combat Crunch and it helps to deliver a texture and taste that has made it a dominant carbohydrate source among many low sugar protein bars.

Protein Content

This is the one area where these bars fail to deliver compared to other vegan bars such as No Cow Bars which contain 20g of protein. From speaking to the brand they have said that they had to compromise on the protein content slightly to deliver on the taste front and so while Bhu Fit Vegan Bars deliver more protein than an MRP style bar such as Clif Bars, they do fall a little short compared to a traditional protein bar.

Taste and Flavours

This is where these bars deliver. The texture and taste is one which has won rave reviews from across the pond and it makes the slightly lower protein content acceptable. The flavour manages to be both natural and still retain the flavour and mouth feel that makes a great bar.

Most natural and healthy but taste not as good as no cow bars

I really like the emphasis on natural ingredients in these bars but taste wise I still prefer no cow.
